FABBRICA DELL'ARIA - MANIFATTURA TABACCHI

The Fabbrica dell’Aria is an innovative botanical filtration system that uses plants to purify the air. Since plants capture polluting molecules and incorporate them into their biomass, the filter has an indefinite duration and is therefore much more efficient than mechanical filtration. Furthermore, it makes integration of greenery in enclosed spaces: functional, efficient and economically advantageous. Plants are not only decorative elements, but technological core of an high-tech depurative solution.

For Manifattura Tabacchi, Pnat developped the first prototype of Fabbrica dell’Aria and took part in the renovation of the former cigarette factory in Florence. The installation is designed for the industrial building B9, and is thought to be like a fascinating greenhouse between internal and external space. In Manifattura Tabacchi, the Fabbrica dell’Aria works thanks to different plant species: Banano, Ficus, Kentia, Chamadorea, Aspidistra, Filodendrum, Microsorium, Fittonia, Dieffenbachia, Strelizia and Asplenium. Plants are arranged to have various layer of foliar surfaces and to worl better.
