ConSenso Project

ConSenso Project on CO₂ storage in a Coffee Plantation in Tanzania.

PNAT, as part of the ConSenso project, has produced a publication presenting the results of an in-depth study conducted at the Itimba plantation, which is part of the Songwa Estates agricultural estate in Tanzania. This work has enabled the precise quantification of the amount of carbon dioxide (CO₂) stored by the estate, highlighting the central role of the agroforestry system in place.

Shade plants with coffee plants

The plantation integrates shade plants with coffee plants, creating an agricultural ecosystem that optimizes CO₂ absorption. This approach not only enhances the environmental sustainability of the cultivation but also represents a concrete solution for mitigating climate change, emphasizing the role of agricultural practices in combating the accumulation of greenhouse gases.

The results

The publication of these results provides a significant contribution to scientific research, offering a solid foundation for better understanding the potential of agroforestry techniques in reducing the environmental impact of the coffee supply chain.
