JELLYFISH BARGE - CANALE NAVICELLI, PISA
Jellyfish Barge - Canale Navicelli, Pisa
The Jellyfish Barge project has been coordinated by the University of Florence and supported by grants from the Region of Tuscany and the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze. First working prototype has been installed at the end of June 2014, in the Navicelli channel between Pisa and Livorno. This testing phase permitted to evaluate Jellyfish capacity to produce food without relying on soil and fresh water, using only solar energy. Furthermore, the Navicelli installation confirmed Jellyfish Barge to be able to interact with its social and urban environment, raise people curiosity and awareness on current topics such as Urban Farming.
Jellyfish Barge comes from a project by Pnat and Studiomobile and relied on the close collaboration of the environmental scientist Paolo Franceschetti and of the PhD students and research fellows of the University of Florence.
