Fabbrica dell'Aria Pavilion

Building the world — and the ways we inhabit it — with intelligence: this is the invitation of the 19th International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia. PNAT Project Nature has responded to the challenge by bringing plant intelligence to the stage — a new paradigm to draw inspiration from in addressing the complex problems humanity faces today.

The exhibition path at the Corderie opens with concrete data on the rise in global temperatures, introducing Fabbrica dell’Aria as a biofilic and technological response to the environmental emergency. The installation, reminiscent of an alchemical laboratory, demonstrates how plants can become true living devices for purifying indoor air.

Thanks to patented technology, Fabbrica dell’Aria enhances the natural purifying abilities of plants, delivering clean air and offering a real-time scientific demonstration. A digital display continuously compares outdoor and indoor air quality, highlighting the effectiveness of the system.

"We are living in a historical moment in which architecture must integrate nature to enhance human well-being and reduce the environmental impact of buildings. Plants are intelligent organisms capable of interacting with their environment in extraordinary ways, offering valuable benefits to our collective health on many levels."

The octagonal structure of the pavilion is made of lightweight, recyclable steel, with an eco-friendly cladding composed of rice husk and aerial lime, evoking a strong connection to the earth. Inside, mirrored surfaces and a ceiling made of dichroic material create an immersive, borderless environment in which the Fabbrica dell’Aria becomes an icon of biophilic design. A sensory and scientific experience that merges nature and technology, encouraging a tangible reflection on the future of the way we inhabit our world.

An immersive experience of botanical bio-filtration comes to life with Fabbrica dell’Aria: an innovative element of biophilic design that enhances the natural ability of plants to purify indoor air. Thanks to patented technology, this “intelligent greenhouse” not only produces clean air but also provides tangible proof of how plants can become essential allies for everyday well-being — far beyond their aesthetic value.

Visitors will become protagonists in a real live scientific experiment, revealing in real time the contribution of plants in removing air pollutants and making their silent yet vital work visible.
