Green Oases in Hospital Spaces
The creation and transformation of hospitals into green spaces, different from what we are used to, has a positive impact on the environment and, most importantly, on the psyche of patients and their families. The presence of plants helps reduce stress, improves social interaction, promotes psychological well-being, reduces the risk of depression, and shortens recovery times. The terrace project for the Meyer Hospital aims to provide patients with a green view, with the goal of improving the psychological and physical conditions of both the children and their caregivers.
The plan includes the renovation of two terraces on the first floor of the hospital complex, where two distinct gardens will be created, each designed according to the building’s exposure and the characteristics of the surrounding spaces.
The Healing Garden will stretch along the pediatric oncology ward, transforming the terrace into a “green jungle.” Patients will enjoy a soothing and calming view, filtered through plants that promote tranquility and relaxation.
The Sensory Garden will be located in the large outdoor space next to the laboratories. This garden, dedicated to relaxation and well-being, will be designed as a “wind garden,” with plants sensitive to the movement of air, creating a dynamic and soft landscape. The plants chosen for both gardens will also provide shade, creating comfortable areas that make the terraces enjoyable even during the warmer months.
