Integrating nature into architecture
The city has always been a place where nature is accepted only if subjected to certain aesthetic and regulatory rules. What we suggest is to consider the city as a complex system composed of built spaces and natural habitats.
This coexistence leads us to the understanding of something deeper, where nature is changing in its wildness and different in its multi-ecosystem being. Hence the idea that the Paola Lenti Showroom in via Bovio in Milan, welcomes not a single landscape project, but many different habitats exploiting the sequencing of the scenarios offered by the architecture. These habitats integrate into the builiding, creating a unique narrative path and an immersive experience in different natural environments.
The habitats
These habitats are designed for their ability to create ecosystem value thanks to their ability to produce biodiversity or bring benefits to people and the surrounding environment. The wet garden, the pollinating roof, the food forest, the garden of shrubs and perennials, the cocoon terraces, the tropical patios: each habitat has a reciprocal aesthetic, functional and ecological interdependence that represents the backbone of the project. At a time when natural habitats are often destroyed, this intervention aims to support nature with the aim of restoring harmony between microclimate, biodiversity and urban environment.
"We need to cover our cities with trees, and the issue cannot be solved by planting them only in traditional places because there is no longer space. Milan has a very high level of soil impermeability, but it’s not the exception; it’s a typical modern city. In the project for Paola Lenti, we thought of greenery that contaminates interiors not originally designed for this purpose, adapting well to the urban climate and being multi-systemic."
